How to Change Spark Plugs for Cars and bikes

      

Step 1

 First step is you need to identify the ignition system your car has, check if it is DIS Ignition system or HEI ignition system. DIS stands for direct ignition system and HIS means high energy ignition the ignition system has a distributor with cap and rotor. The coil over spark plug is a system in which it has no plug wires and only a just ignition coils. Carefully hold the spark plug wire at the base of the spark plug. Firmly twist the boot to loosen the seal, now remove the spark plug wire or cable. You can refer the vehicles users’ manual if you have any doubt.

Step 2

Basing on the Engine type, number of plugs change. If you have a V8, you'll have to open the plugs from both sides of the engine to get them out, four on the left and four on the right. If you have a 6-cylinder engine, they may differ so just follow the plug cable and you will find the plug use the proper tools to open and don’t tamper any part of the engine.

Step 3

Now use a wrench with extender and for the spark plug socket to loosen then remove the spark plug in counter clockwise slowly. Before you take the  spark plugs out from the position make sure that you remember the position or have  mark the plug wires to identify their positions in the firing order, This can  help to let them not get mixed up. Always use a spark plug socket to remove the spark plugs and don’t use any other instruments which are not fitting it right.

Step 4

When reinstalling the new plugs you have to be sure that the spark plugs you are installing are made for your car and engine size for sure and Do not install spark plugs just because they fit into the hole, The designing can cause internal engine damage if they are not the perfect match of your car, always Use a spark plug gapping tool to check the measurement between the electrodes, If the spark plug gap is incorrect this will result in low power, poor mileage and can damage the engine.
